Senior Project Manager

IIED Europe is hiring a senior project manager to play a leading role in overseeing IIED Europe's projects and leading on a multi-year grant from the European Union (EU). This is a great opportunity for a project management professional with strong experience in grant management to lead on one of IIED Europe's priority projects. The postholder will also work with the management team to improve project management across the organisation. The successful candidate will have solid, demonstrable experience in project and grant management, preferably working with EU-funded grants, who can work with accuracy and detail on project level while also working with management overseeing multiple projects.

We can offer:

  • Salary range of 58,200-66,900 euros, depending on experience and skills
  • Fixed term (three years), full-time contract, with intention to extend
  • Hybrid working conditions, with a minimum of one day a week in the office (central Amsterdam office location next to the Botanical Gardens)
  • 28 vacation days, flexible national/cultural public holidays, 8% holiday allowance, public transport card, training possibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Project Manager will (1) lead and deliver the project management component for the GEC Phase 3 grant, (2) provide project management advice and support other IIED Europe projects, and (3) is expected to play a key role in the growth and development of the organisation on project management performance.

1. Project management and coordination of the GEC grant (40%)

• Be the project lead for the GEC grant

• Ensure the successful delivery of the GEC grant, in close collaboration with colleagues

• Prepare, manage, and monitor project related donor, partner and consultant contracts

• Ensure procurement is compliant with EC policies and our internal policies

• Ensure project expenditure is within budget through quarterly review of expense versus budget and within contract period (to avoid loss of secure funds) and comply with donor requirements.

• Prepare technical & financial reports to the European Commission and other funders

• Manage financial project audits in close collaborations with colleagues and external auditors

2. Project management support on other projects (40%)

• Work with management on staff capacity management across projects

• Across all IIED Europe projects, work with the other project leads to ensure accurate recording of time and budget in timesheets

• Advise on the budgeting, reporting and audits across projects

3. Organisational- and business development (20%)

• Work with management to improve the organisation's overall project management performance

• Play a leading role in project management capacity building within the organisation, exploring and implementing best practices in project management.

• Work with colleagues in the preparation of proposals for various funders

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The succesful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant subject

Desirable:

  • Training in EU funded projects, e.g. Horizon Europe training


KNOWLEDGE

Essential:

  • Excellent knowledge of grant management and project management

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of EU funding rules and procedures


EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Solid, demonstrable experience in grant management (i.e. budgets, contracts, procurement, compliance)
  • Experience in creating project budgets and managing project finances
  • Experience in the planning and monitoring of timesheets
  • Experience in leading on financial project reporting
  • Experience in stakeholder management

Desirable:

  • Experience in procurement and compliance from the European Commission
  • Experience in working with various daily rates, person months, other (EU specific) project finance variables and experience in EU financial reporting
  • Experience in staff capacity planning across projects in line with project budgets
  • Experience in audits from the European Commission and experience of using the EU fundings and tenders portal
  • Experience managing EU-funded, multi-stakeholder projects


SKILLS:

Essential:

  • Working with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Working to deadlines, prioritising workload
  • Ability to adapt in a changing environment
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff at all levels, partners from different backgrounds and cultures, external bodies and the general public

  • Excellent general organisational skills and ability to use Microsoft office software.

Desirable:

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects
  • Ability to use Exact online
  • Knowledge of and ability to work in one or more other European languages is an asset.
