The Great Bubble Barrier
Project Engineer
As a Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and deploying our Bubble Barrier systems, ensuring projects are executed effectively and efficiently. You will be responsible for feasibility studies, engineering design, and on-site installation, working closely with cross-functional teams and our partners and suppliers.Your expertise will directly contribute to protecting marine and aquatic environments and advancing sustainable solutions.
Project Development & Implementation
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for new Bubble Barrier installations
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of Bubble Barrier systems in rivers and canals
- Ensure compliance with relevant permit requirements and environmental regulations
- Collaborate with project managers to transition projects from feasibility to realisation
Technical Coordination & Management
- Manage and oversee the technical aspects of Bubble Barrier projects, from design to deployment, alongside our Project Managers
- Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the quality and efficiency of installations
- Ensure continuous alignment between engineering teams, project managers, and clients regarding technical specifications, project progress, and delivery timelines
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges that arise during project execution
Research & Development
- Contribute to the research and development of technological solutions and ongoing improvements to the Bubble Barrier system alongside the R&D engineers
- Identify opportunities for innovation and optimisation in system design and implementation
- Stay up to date with advancements in environmental engineering and water management technologies
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related field
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in technical project management or engineering
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of water management, mechanical systems, fluid dynamics or environmental engineering
- Project Management: Strong ability to manage multiple technical projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities
- Problem–Solving: Ability to identify and address engineering challenges in real-time
- Language Proficiency: Working proficiency in English (Fluent); Dutch is beneficial, at least basic proficiency is required
- Mission Alignment: Genuine interest in ocean health, sustainability, and preventing plastic pollution
Role Requirements
- Working Hours: 36 – 40 working hours per week
- Location: Office-based with flexibility for remote work
- Travel: National and international travel required for site visits and project implementation
- Permit: Based in the Netherlands with an EU working permit
What we offer
- Salary: 3.500 to 4,500 EUR gross for 40 hours/week, plus holiday allowance of 8%
- Leave: 20 holidays + 5 company closing days (based on 40 hours/week)
