The UN has introduced 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But what are the 17 SDGs and why are the SDGs so important? In this Greenjobs.nl blog we explain the 17 Sustainable Development Goals!
The 17 Sunstainable Developement Goals (SDG's)
The 193 countries that are members of the United Nations (UN) have agreed 17 global goals for sustainable development to tackle the major climate problem. The core of the Sustainable Development Goals, or Sustainable Development Goals, are to end extreme poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change. The Sustainable Development Goals are extremely important as they contribute to a better future and a liveable world, also for future generations.
Prior to the SDGs, the Millennium Development Goals served. These Millennium Development Goals were subdivided into eight concrete goals and focused mainly on aid from rich to poor countries. This differs from the SDGs, which go a step further. Instead of just talking about aid from rich to poor countries, the development agenda now applies to all countries. The goals form a global compass for challenges such as the climate crisis, inequality and injustice. The situation is different in every country, but these global goals apply to all countries and all people. In addition, countries themselves also work on their own goals and where possible contribute to the (overarching) goals of other countries. The idea behind the global goals is that no one is left behind and that everyone should have the opportunity to build a better future and tackle the major climate problem.
The SDGs can be divided into five major themes: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. Seventeen different goals fall under these themes, you can read more about them via the links:
1. No poverty.
2. No hunger.
3. Good health and well-being.
6. Clean water and sanitation.
7. Affordable and sustainable energy.
8. Decent work and economic growth.
9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure.
11. Sustainable cities and communities.
12. Responsible production and consumption.
13. Climate Action.
16. Peace, justice and strong public services.
17. Partnership to achieve goals.
