This year's B Corp Month is themed 'Going Beyond'
March means #BCorpMonth - and this year we're showing what it means to go beyond business as usual. As a certified #BCorp, we use our company as a force for good. Our mission is to future-proof business and government by inspiring them to put people and the planet first. As far as we are concerned, the transition to the new and sustainable economy cannot go fast enough. That’s why anyone who wants to contribute to this can use the job site Greenjobs.nl for free. With that we are taking one step further and will always do so.
Greenjobs.nl is proud to be a certified B Corporation and to be part of a community of companies that all go beyond business as usual. That's why we want to shine a light on Dutch B Corporations 🔆 this BCorpMonth. We asked them why and how they go beyond business as usual and what we can keep an eye on them for next year.
FairClimateFund
Why are you going beyond?
Climate change affects us all, but people in countries vulnerable to climate change are hit the hardest. It is unfair that these people are more affected by climate change, while we are primarily responsible for climate change. At FairClimateFund they seek justice for this problem.
How are you going beyond?
They work for a fair climate. Through FairClimateFund, those who contribute most to climate change can invest in climate projects that benefit people most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Together with local partners, they set up climate projects in vulnerable areas. The projects reduce CO2 emissions and they certify this into carbon credits that companies can buy. The income from this ends up with the people who realize the CO2 reduction. That’s Fair! In addition, these people also receive a Fairtrade premium for climate adaptation.
Let's All go beyond!
FairClimateFund believes that climate and social justice go hand in hand. They work with passion for their mission and do this in close cooperation with locals. That is what makes working at FairClimateFund so special.
There is still a lot of work to be done and therefore the team will continue to expand in the coming years. In addition, they are always looking for companies that also want to work on a fair climate and want to contribute to the projects. They are always open for a conversation!
Oma’s Soep
Why are you going beyond?
Loneliness is a major and growing problem among the elderly. Almost half of all elderly people in the Netherlands regularly feel lonely. The number of elderly people is expected to double in the next 20 years. Oma's Soep sells fresh soups and meals and with 50% of the profit they are committed to connecting young and old and to combat loneliness among the elderly.
How are you going beyond?
To structurally combat loneliness, Oma's Soep organizes weekly cooking days and soup-at-home days. In every 'Grandma's Soup city' there is a student board that is responsible for these activities. During the cooking days, the volunteers make soups with the elderly from leftover vegetables and have a chat with each other. During soup-at-home days, volunteers in 12 cities throughout the Netherlands visit the elderly to bring soup and keep them company. In addition to these weekly activities, Oma's Soep organizes original and fun events.
Let's All go beyond!
Oma's Soep continues to expand in the Netherlands to increase its impact. In addition, Oma's Soep will also be launched abroad, to combat loneliness among the elderly there as well.
The GoodRoll
Why are you going beyond?
Business as usual is what you see when you enter The Good Roll in the (social) workplace and offices in Weesp. But their motivation is anything but business as usual.
The Good Roll started out of a mutual frustration; One third of the world's population does not have access to safe and clean toilets. Shocking numbers that inspired them to found The Good Roll. Since 2017, they have been building toilets in schools and communities in Ghana, selling 100% tree-friendly toilet paper.
How are you going beyond?
Within The Good Roll they do their 'stinking' best to carry out all processes and products as sustainably as possible. In practice, this means being agile, enterprising and innovative, with a preference for working together with other B Corp companies.
An example of this is that last year they switched to a B-Corp factory in Europe that produces our bamboo.
Let's All go beyond!
They believe that if they join forces with other companies that want to make an impact, they faster and more steps. With their own foundation, they will be looking for companies that will build toilets in schools together with The Good Roll.
Keep an eye on the foundation if you want to know more about this!
Seepje
Why are you going beyond?
Seepje was started to solve a major problem: the use of petrochemical ingredients in detergents and other cleaners, which is harmful to people and the environment. Making an impact is their business model, which is why Seepje was created. CSR or Impact is not something that was implemented after a while because they felt they had to become more sustainable, but has always been there.
How are you going beyond?
Seepje makes washing and cleaning products with (at least) 99% natural ingredients, without unnecessary fossil raw materials. For example, the peel of the Sapindus mukorossi fruit! They grow in abundance on trees in Nepal and produce a natural form of soap. By paying a fair price for the natural raw materials, they create value for nature. And that's important. This way the Sapindus trees in Nepal and India will be preserved, and it will become more interesting for farmers to plant trees.
Let's All go beyond!
At Seepje, they have the ambition to become the most inspiring and impactful washing and cleaning brand in Europe, and they are already well on their way!
Fronteer
Why are you going beyond?
In a world in transition, they believe that businesses not only can, but should be, a force for good. For a sustainable planet, an inclusive society and healthy people. That's why they are committed to designing strategies and innovations that help make the world a better place.
How are you going beyond?
At Fronteer they are creative and unique in their culture, structure & policies. They run their company based on trust, collaboration, diversity and creativity. Examples in Fronteer's culture are vegetarian lunch and catering (also for customers) and one full day a month of "Ikigai time" for their employees. By means of Holacracy, they guarantee the structure of a self-organizing and 'bossless' organization at Fronteer. This enables transparent decision-making and a transparent salary system. There is also a changing management position so that everyone has a say and inequality is reduced and fairness is promoted. Everyone can introduce a new policy at Fronteer, which leads to creative ideas that help the organization further. Such as a sustainable travel policy in which employees receive travel days for sustainable means of transport during their holidays. It is also possible to exchange two holidays per year to be free on the holiday you would like to celebrate.
Let's All go beyond!
Fronteer is always looking for more impact makers! Currently, they are on the look-out for strategy interns. And next to that, you can reach out to them if you'd like to hear more about their work or organization.
