Would you like to contribute to nature conservation and inclusive green development in countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America? Do you have experience working with organizations in the Global South? And are you an enthusiastic team player? If so, apply for our role as International Project Officer.
Your Role within the Organization
As a mid-level professional, you’ll bring your expertise to support our organization. You’ll work with colleagues on day-to-day project management for projects focused on, or carried out in, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. You’ll regularly liaise with partner organizations in these regions and visit project locations when required.
Your Responsibilities
- As an expert, you’ll bring complementary knowledge and experience in one or more of IUCN NL’s strategic themes, which include national and international biodiversity, environmental justice, and policies for nature. Within these themes, we’re focusing on finance, innovation, communication, and knowledge sharing;
- Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day management of several country-specific projects funded by different donors;
- You will help develop and implement collaborative projects with partners in the Global South, and, where appropriate, with other civil society organizations and/or private sector entities;
- Where relevant, you’ll work on developing new services and products and initiate and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Spanish, and/or French;
- A valid EU work permit;
- Available to work at our Amsterdam office at least two days per week (fully remote work is not an option for this role);
- Preferably, experience in the extractive sector (mining, oil & gas);
- Intercultural sensitivity;
- Willingness to travel to project areas once or twice a year, if necessary;
- Genuine motivation for IUCN NL’s mission and vision;
- A completed academic degree relevant to our mission (Biology, Forest and Nature Conservation, Tropical Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Physical Geography);
- Approximately 3-5 years of work experience with projects in the Global South, working with civil society in those regions, preferably in and ecosystem conservation;
- A team player with excellent communication skills;
- Ability to independently write clear reports and maintain communication with donors;
- Interest in nature conservation and development cooperation;
- Preferably familiar with GIS/mapping software and database management.

- The full-time starting salary for this role is between EUR 3802 and EUR 4072 gross (as of 1 January 2025), depending on experience.
