Join The Great Bubble Barrier in the fight against plastic pollution by supporting our engineering and technology team in redesigning and optimizing existing solutions. Are you a creative problem-solver passionate about designing products that make a difference? We have an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Product Design Intern to join our team. As an Industrial Product Design Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in product development, prototyping, and user-centred design while working alongside seasoned professionals in a supportive environment. The Great Bubble Barrier is a Dutch social enterprise, founded in 2017, which developed an effective technology to stop plastic pollution in rivers before it flows into our oceans, using bubbles. Our Bubble Barrier technology captures plastic across the entire width and depth of rivers, operates 24/7, and does not disrupt regular river activities.
You will be working on:
• Concept Development: Assisting in brainstorming and sketching innovative product ideas.
• Prototyping: Helping create physical and digital prototypes to test functionality and design aesthetics.
• 3D Modelling: Supporting the design team with CAD modelling and renderings.
• User-Centred Design: Conducting user research and gathering feedback to improve product designs.
• Material Research: Exploring sustainable and efficient materials for product creation.
• Design Documentation: Assisting in the creation of technical drawings and specifications for manufacturing.
• Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering and marketing, to ensure alignment on product goals.
You will gain valuable experience in:
• The product design and development process.
• Prototyping tools and techniques.
• CAD software and 3D modelling.
• User research and testing methodologies.
• Sustainable and innovative material usage.
• Professional collaboration and communication within technical teams.
Skills & Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Experience: Interest or experience in 3D modelling, creating prototypes from concepts, manufacturing and testing in the field
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Language Proficiency: Working proficiency in English
• Mission Alignment: Genuine interest in ocean health, sustainability, and preventing plastic pollution
Work Requirements
• Working Hours: 32 – 36 working hours per week
• Location: Office-based in Amsterdam with flexibility for remote work
• Permit: Based in the Netherlands with an EU working permit
• Duration: Available for a minimum of 12 weeks (3 months)
