Applying anonymously - What is it and why does Greenjobs.nl think this is important?

Did you know that when you apply for a sustainable vacancy on Greenjobs.nl, the applicant is not asked what gender they are? Greenjobs.nl sees more and more vacancies that ask to apply anonymously and by removing the salutation people can also apply anonymously when they apply to a vacancy on Greenjobs.nl. In this blog you will read about what apllying anonymously is and why this is important and possible at Greenjobs.nl

Applying anonymously, what is it?

When applying anonymously, an applicant responds without stating his/her gender. But age is also often omitted. As an applicant, you can also choose to omit all personal data from your resume. So you apply without the organization knowing how old you are and what gender you are.

As an applicant you know that you will not be judged on your gender and/or age. With anonymous application, every applicant has the same job opportunities as everyone else and there is no discrimination on the basis of age or gender.

At Greenjobs.nl we think it is important that everyone has a fair chance at a job, there is no discrimination, and that you can be who you want to be, regardless of your gender. That is why there is no salutation on the Greenjobs.nl job board when you apply, 'madam' or 'sir' has been removed*. As a result, applicants only fill in a name when applying for a permanent job and no longer 'sir' or 'madam'.

Anonymous Applying, why should employers do this?

Greenjobs.nl sees the promotion of inclusiveness and diversity in the workplace as a duty and we want to prevent discrimination in the labor market, which starts with applying for a job. For the employer, it often also provides other extras, such as:

  • More applications on your vacancies.
  • It shows that as an employer you are against discrimination and therefore contribute to your employer branding.
  • You select on skills and skills that attract the best talent.
  • It makes for a diverse team.

Anonymous Applications, how do I arrange this for my vacancy?

It is not difficult for employers to start introducing anonymous applications into the recruitment process. Place your sustainable job on Greenjobs.nl and state in your vacancy text that you would like to receive CVs anonymously. You can do this by, for example, copying one of the following sentences in your vacancy text:

  • Because we value diversity and inclusivity at 'Employer name', we ask you to apply anonymously and to omit your personal data in your application.
  • At 'Employer Name' we stand for inclusiveness, diversity and we are against discrimination. Our selection procedures are therefore also anonymous. We therefore ask you to anonymize your resume and motivation. Pay attention to name, date of birth, gender, ethnicity, address and marital status. We do need your e-mail address and telephone number to be able to contact you.
  • 'Name of employer' is against discrimination and racism and we would therefore like to ask you to apply anonymously.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer, which means we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We therefore ask you to apply anonymously.

Anonymous Applications, why does Greenjobs.nl think this is important?

🌏 By removing the salutation when applying, Greenjobs.nl wants to set a good example for employers and other job boards by encouraging anonymous applications and combating discrimination in job applications. This can already start when applying for a job, so Greenjobs.nl tries to do our bit by counteracting this already during the application with the option to apply anonymously.

Owner of Greenjobs.nl Annemiek Nusmeijer is an active participant of the B Corp working group JEDI which stands for: Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. A working group consisting of employees from different B Corps (Tony's Chocoloneley, Fronteer, Kiitos Technology, VIE People, B Lab) with the aim of creating more diversity in the workplace and combating discrimination.

*If an applicant does have a salutation on his CV, this will remain so. Jobboard Greenjobs.nl does not adjust resumes and/or motivations of applicants.
