At Rewilding Europe, we have set ambitious targets for demonstrating large-scale rewilding in our current 10 (growing towards 15) landscapes across the continent. Guided by a shared vision, mission and strategy that we have all committed to, these landscapes act as showcases of what can happen at a much larger scale in Europe. Role

The Head of Landscapes is responsible for ensuring a strong collaboration (co-production) with at least five different rewilding landscape teams and empowering them to be able to deliver on Rewilding Europe’s strategy, based on strategic plans for these landscapes. 

Positioning in the organisation

The Head of Landscapes is a member of the Leadership Team and carries joint responsibility for the overall performance and strategy of Rewilding Europe. Oversees and coordinates working relationships with the Landscape Teams on behalf of the Central Team. Is a member of the Wilder Nature team and works closely with the Landscape Leads, Thematic Heads and their teams. The position is both strategic and operational and very result-oriented. The Head of Landscapes reports to the Executive Director. The position is based in a European country from which regular international (slow) travel to the rewilding landscapes is fairly easy.

Main responsibilities

• Participates in strategic planning, budgeting and fundraising at central level.

• Acts as linking pin between Rewilding Europe’s Central Team and Landscape Teams and oversees and coordinates the connection to and from these teams.

• Coordinates strategic and operational planning, monitoring and reporting of selected Landscapes on behalf of the Central Team.

• Reports on performance and achievements and helps to identify opportunities, threats and setting priorities towards achieving the objectives in the selected Landscapes.

• Supports Landscape Teams in achieving their strategic goals and objectives and provides technical advice, guidance and practical support in a range of fields (with an emphasis on Wilder Nature) to the Landscape Teams.

• Helps scoping of opportunities to achieve Nature for People objectives in the selected Landscapes.

• Apart from selected Landscapes related work, takes a role in other, to be selected, general topics at central level.

• Takes a pro-active role in fundraising, including scoping of fundraising opportunities, writing of proposals, building and maintaining donor relationships, and grant management.

• Represents Rewilding Europe to external stakeholders on various events, platforms and network groups.

• Travels to the selected Landscapes on a regular basis, to perform the above responsibilities and tasks.

Key qualifications

• Master’s degree in conservation, rewilding, wildlife biology or related.

• At least 8 years of experience in in the above fields, in particular with very operational (field) experience.

• A track record in successful intercultural communication in an international working environment.

• Experience and ability to develop fundraising proposals, and managing donor relations.

• Extensive international network in conservation, rewilding, wildlife or related fields.

• Entrepreneurial mindset, hands-on attitude, a ‘can-do’ mentality, solution and result-oriented.

• A real go-getter with a proactive attitude and ability to work independently.

• Full proficiency in English, other European languages a plus.

Remuneration

• Rewilding Europe is a professional and dynamic organisation with a friendly working culture. We offer competitive salaries, commensurate with background, expertise, level of experience, and country of residence.

• This position is graded in salary scale 10 with the salary structure of Rewilding Europe ranging from scale 4 to scale 11.
