About Safisana
At Safisana, we see waste as a value. We recover resources from organic and fecal waste and transform them into renewable natural gas, electricity, and organic fertilizer. Our mission is to become the leading waste-to-resource solution for urban, non-sewered areas in low- and middle-income countries.
By connecting the dots between health, climate, food, and agriculture, we tackle some of today’s most pressing challenges: food insecurity, sanitation and waste management, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Safisana is a pioneering social enterprise operating in the Netherlands and Ghana, combining impact innovation and circular economy solutions, with plans to scale across Africa and beyond
The Role
We are looking for a Group Financial Controller who is excited to combine strong financial management with purpose-driven work.
In this new role, you will lead and strengthen the group’s financial control, accounting, audit, and compliance processes, and ensure the reliability and transparency of Safisana’s financial information. You’ll play a central part in building the financial systems that support Safisana’s growth and long-term sustainability.
While your main focus will be on financial control, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues working on project finance and strategic modeling within the business development context. Over time, there will be room to grow your role toward business development, project finance, and group financial analysis, helping connect finance more directly to Safisana’s mission and impact.
Your Core Responsibilities
Oversee all finance and accounting operations across the Safisana Group (Netherlands and Ghana)
Prepare accurate and timely consolidated financial statements, management and investor reports, and audits
Lead budgeting and forecasting processes and ensure solid internal financial controls
Manage treasury and cash flow at the group level
Oversee donor financial management, including defining donor budgets, preparing donor reports, and ensuring full contractual and financial compliance
Ensure compliance with tax, VAT, and regulatory requirements
Supervise local finance teams and strengthen systems and procedures across entities
Act as a reliable partner to the management team, contributing financial insights that support decision-making and growth
About You
You are a hands-on, analytical finance professional who enjoys structure, accuracy, and problem-solving.
You thrive in a small, dynamic, international team and want your work to contribute to a healthier planet and stronger communities.
You bring:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, financial control, or audit
Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS and Dutch GAAP), consolidation, and reporting
Excellent command of English (Dutch or experience in international teams is a plus)
A proactive and collaborative working style
A passion for Safisana’s mission and circular economy solutions
Curiosity and flexibility to grow beyond core financial control over time
What We Offer
A role where finance meets sustainability and social impact
The opportunity to shape and strengthen a growing international organization
A collaborative and purpose-driven team based in Weesp (The Netherlands)
Flexible working hours (32–40 hours per week)
An open, down-to-earth culture with space for initiative and professional growth
Applicants must already hold a valid work permit and visa enabling them to reside and work in the Netherlands.
