Lead Engineer - Offshore Cabling Projects

The client are a leading offshore wind specialist dedicated to powering a sustainable future. Based in the vibrant South of Netherlands

They specialize in the end-to-end execution of complex subsea cable projects, encompassing Cable Installation, Cable Burial, and Testing & Termination (T&T). As they expand their portfolio of next-generation offshore wind farms across Europe, they are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lead Engineer / Work Package Manager to spearhead their upcoming subsea cable packages.

The Role

As the Lead Engineer / Work Package Manager, you will hold end-to-end accountability for the engineering, preparation, and execution of our subsea cable work packages. You will bridge the gap between complex engineering design and offshore operational execution, ensuring that installation, burial, and T&T scopes are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

This is a dual-capability role requiring robust technical engineering know-how alongside sharp project management skills to interface with clients, subcontractors, and offshore crew.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the engineering design and review process for cable installation (lay analyses, pull-in calculations, vessel deck layouts) and cable burial (trenching analyses, rock dumping, seabed mobility assessments).
  • Oversee the development of method statements, task plans, and risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP) for high-voltage (HV) testing and termination scopes.
  • Manage interfaces between the cable manufacturer, installation vessels, and the offshore substation/platform teams.

Work Package Management

  • Own the execution of the assigned Cable Installation, Burial, and T&T work package from contract award through to final client handover.
  • Manage subcontractors, vessel operators, and specialized T&T teams, ensuring adherence to strict KPIs and safety standards.
  • Control package budgets, track variations (MOC), manage risks, and report on progress to the Project Director.

Offshore Preparation & Execution

  • Ensure all equipment, vessels, and personnel are mobilized efficiently and in compliance with maritime and project specifications.
  • Provide technical support during the offshore execution phase, resolving engineering queries (EQs) or site discrepancies in real-time.
  • Ensure strict adherence to QHSE standards, fostering a "Zero Harm" culture both onshore and offshore.

Who You Are

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in the offshore wind or subsea oil & gas sector, with a proven track record specifically in subsea power cables.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of cable laying methodologies, burial equipment and high-voltage testing & termination procedures.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and communication skills. You thrive when managing multidisciplinary, international teams.
  • Languages: Fluency in Dutch and English (written and spoken) is required
  • Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally to mobilization ports, fabrication yards, and offshore sites as required.
