Sustainable jobs: what does that mean exactly?
We often receive questions about what a sustainable vacancy actually entails. It's important to understand that sustainability is not limited to a specific sector or job type. We don't have all the exact answers; there's a gray area, but we strive every day to be as transparent as possible for you.
The gray area regarding whether a vacancy is truly sustainable will always exist. Greenjobs.nl does its best to prevent vacancies from companies more focused on greenwashing than sustainability from appearing on Greenjobs.nl. That's why every vacancy that appears on Greenjobs.nl is checked by the Account Management team. If there's doubt, the vacancy is removed from the job board, and the company is asked why it's a sustainable vacancy. If there's still doubt, the vacancy is removed from Greenjobs.nl.
At Greenjobs.nl, we define sustainable jobs in several ways:
- All jobs from Mission-Driven Organizations: These are organizations with a very clear sustainable and/or social mission. Think of companies like Natuur & Milieu, The Bin, Sungevity Nederland, Vandebron, Both ENDS, and others. These companies are dedicated to creating a more sustainable future and are looking for talent that shares this vision.
- Sustainable jobs in the public sector: These include jobs at municipalities, water boards, environmental agencies, and provinces that contribute to the sustainable development of communities. Think of organizations such as IPO Provincies, Gemeente De Bilt, BIJ12, Ministerie EZK, and Omgevingsdienst Midden- en West-Brabant.
- Jobs at Certified B Corps: B Corps are companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance.
