Marketing and Communications Director
Metabolic's mission is to transition the global economy to a fundamentally sustainable state. We advise governments, businesses, and NGOs on how to adapt to a fast-changing global context. Combining systems thinking and data science, we map and understand local and global systems to assess where to intervene and develop solutions that can dramatically shift how the economy functions.
We are an international and dynamic team of around 95 people who share an ambition for catalyzing a sustainable future. Based in the Netherlands, we work at the cutting edge of sustainability initiatives for a broad range of global clients.
About the Position
Communication is central to Metabolic's mission of driving sustainable systems change. As global awareness of pressing societal challenges approaches a tipping point, we have a critical window of opportunity to cut through the noise and communicate in a way that shifts attitudes and inspires action in the right places.
We're looking for a dynamic Marketing and Communications Director to lead these efforts at Metabolic. As an impact-driven organization, the role is twofold: on the one hand, leading marketing efforts to grow the reach and impact of Metabolic's brand and work; and on the other, crafting innovative communications strategies that contribute to a necessary global mindset shift around sustainability and systems change.
In a diverse and fast-growing organization, you will play the pivotal role of 'brand guardian,' maintaining a clear and powerful overarching brand message for both internal and external stakeholders. You will oversee marketing and communications for a suite of different entities -- all working towards a common mission via different service offerings and funding models. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, brand management experience, and an ability to see the big picture are essential.
You will be responsible for leading the marketing and communications team, shaping the vision, strategy, and communications mix for the Metabolic ecosystem. You and your team will work across a range of disciplines -- from thought leadership creation, brand development, and partner communications, to PR, service marketing and client-facing project communications.
Internally, you will coordinate the marcomms efforts of each of the Metabolic entities, ensuring regular dialogue with the executive and management teams as well as broader Metabolic staff. You will form a crucial linking pin between marcomms and other departments such as business development, operations, and design, and steward efforts to build effective communications capacity across all teams. The marcomms team and parts of the design team will look to you for mentorship and leadership in the form of vision and strategy setting, goal and budget setting, culture shaping, and personal development -- core to our ethos at Metabolic.
You will serve as a brand advocate, networking to form media and communications partnerships that accelerate our impact. You will guide your team and mobilize capacity within the broader Metabolic staff to create large-scale, holistic campaigns and thought leadership with high relevance and reach. As the ecosystem's international footprint grows, you will develop a strategy and staff appropriate to new market contexts.
